Tarriffville Gorge
of the Farmington River

Center of the Central Connecticut Paddling Universe

"T'ville Gorge" is located about 10 miles north of Hartford, CT.  From Boston, it's easiest to take Route 90 to Route 84 into Hartford.

From the north (Springfield, MA), take Route 91 South to Route 20.  Head west about 10 miles, taking 187 South when the road narrows.  After about 5 miles go straight, past a traffic light.  The next left (about 1 mile) will be Spoonville road.  Take an immediate right and follow the road to the end.  You've found the famous Play Holes!

From Hartford, CT, take Route 91 North about 5 miles.  Go left at the end of the Route 305 exit (I think it's Bloomfield Ave., Windsor).  Follow the road for several miles.  At a light, take a right onto Route 187 north.  Continue on 187, bearing left toward the Airport where it splits with Route 189.  Cross the river and take the next right - Spoonville Road.  Take another immediate right and follow the road to the end.  You've found the famous Play Holes!

For the long T'Ville run, take Route 189 north into Tarriffville.  Just past the light (Route 315 intersection), take a diagonal left into the center of "town".  Continue on the road about 1/4 mile, finally bearing right onto a dirt road to the put-in at Tarriffville park.

Details, details

T'Ville also has two slalom practice sites, winter and summer.  The summer site is just downstream of the "sandy beach" at the end of the path that begins at the south side of the turn-around of the Spoonville road extension.  The winter site is accessed from a small dirt road just past the Wynding Hills Road intersection.

Please!  If the gates are pulled to the side when you arrive, please return them there.  We try to keep a subtle presence but still have experienced quite a bit of damage from tubers hanging onto the poles.
